Experiencing the Festival of Sustainable Business
Here's how the Retrofit West team got on at the Festival of Sustainable Business - sharing green ideas, creating connections and getting inspired!
When we heard of the opportunity to exhibit at, sponsor and speak at The Festival of Sustainable Business, we couldn’t pass it up. The Festival of Sustainable Business is set up by Future Leap and brings together business from all over the South West to connect, share ideas and spread the sustainability word. It was fantastic to be in the room with many companies who are striving towards a green future and setting great examples.
Transition Talks Stage
Our Managing Director, Simon Andrews, had the opportunity to speak multiple times at the Transition Talks stage – in great company alongside an impressive roster of speakers, including Carla Denyer MP, Co-leader of the Green Party and Green MP for Bristol Central. The speakers throughout the day touched on inspiring topics such as the importance of diversity in construction and engineering, social value and integration of refugees in community engagement. It was empowering and encouraging to hear from like-minded businesses and broaden our knowledge in these different sectors of social change.
Simon participated in the Retrofitting and Decarbonising Bristol and Surrounds Panel Discussion and talked about how the terminology around retrofit itself is a barrier to most individuals outside the construction industry, advocating for more accessible language within the energy efficiency market. The panel also touched on the importance of a skilled and available professionals to install green measures and how to boost the retrofit market in order to encourage uptake of green skills.
Inspiring Conversations
The Retrofit West team on the exhibition stand had a busy, motivating day chatting to business owners and homeowners alike about all things retrofit. People came to chat to us from all backgrounds: homeowners wanting to trouble-shoot pesky draughts, architects who have a passion for sustainable building, community group members saying hi, and trade professionals wanting to branch out into renewable energy technology. We all came away with an appreciation for the amazing variety of conversations and ideas that were shared.
