We’re here to help people across the West of England make their homes warmer, greener, and cheaper to run.
Retrofit West Advice is a West of England Mayoral Combined Authority project. It is part of a wider retrofit project that aims to build the supply chain, supporting local businesses and delivering green skills development for residents.
Retrofitting — making energy-saving improvements to homes and buildings — is one of the most powerful things we can do to tackle climate change. But it’s not just about cutting carbon. It means lower energy bills, more local jobs, and healthier homes for everyone.
The Combined Authority is funding the project through its Green Recovery Fund, a £60m pot to help meet the region’s climate and ecology ambitions. For more details on our net zero and nature recovery plans see their Climate & Ecological Strategy & Action Plan.
Our Mission
Not for profit, we marry robust backing with passion and expertise, presenting targeted solutions to help address the climate problem.
Supported by the West of England Combined Authority, Retrofit West is aimed at addressing the challenges of rising energy prices and reducing carbon emissions to reach the West of England’s net zero target by 2030.
Our goal is to become the conclusive source of guidance for domestic retrofitting. We’re dedicated to assembling a team of leading industry experts who will provide continuous support and strategic guidance. Together, we aim to empower you with the knowledge and tools to transform your house into an energy-efficient, comfortable, and sustainable home.
Our Story
Retrofit West is a Community Interest Company offering concise and independent advice and support for domestic retrofit projects in the West of England. Our expertise helps householders plan, design, and deliver energy-efficient and sustainable home improvements.
Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and created by an independent national charity and leading energy advice organisation the Centre for Sustainable Energy, we aim to help more householders, upgrade their properties. In doing so, householders can benefit from reduced energy consumption and costs, create a healthier and more comfortable home environment, help shield from the impact of energy security and rising bills, and most crucially help fight climate change in a localised and impactful way.
Our comprehensive service package covers every aspect of your retrofit project. From providing initial guidance, design, and planning assistance, to helping you find the best services and installers, guaranteeing quality assurance and offering impartial expert advice.
We recognise the importance of local installers in the success of retrofit projects. That’s why we are actively building an extensive supply chain network. This will comprise of professionals interested in or already engaged in retrofit, to foster growth in the local market. In addition to financial support, we offer guidance on training, accreditation support, and attaining the required quality standards. Our objective is to promote our delivery partners and uphold high standards, ensuring a collaborative approach and the advancement of the retrofit industry.
The climate and cost of living emergencies are key priorities for the West of England Combined Authority who fund this project. The Combined Authority is investing £10 million in retrofit to help address the challenges. The Retrofit West Advice service is the first project to be delivered from this funding.
